The progression from topic-to-topic is masterful, and the writing is exceptionally clear and at the perfect level for an introductory Java class.

Best Java book out there for a beginner programmer!

The best thing I have to say about this book is that it is very conversational and easy to read and understand. There are a lot of concepts that are hard to understand in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) for a beginner - the authors do a very good job at breaking down these concepts into real world examples so that programming becomes easier to relate to. I used the first edition of this book as a beginner to OOP years ago, and to date, when I think of a class or an object, I think of the examples that are used in this book. That's how good this book is at "driving the point home", so to speak. I think one of the main reasons would probably be because this book discusses OOP concepts earlier on in the book, so that OOP becomes natural and not something "new and alien" that was introduced at the end of the book like I've seen in some of the other intro to programming books.

I also find it interesting how the authors have updated the 2nd edition with examples from current pop culture - this definitely makes reading the book a fun experience. The second edition also has several new chapters that discusses additional language features, and program constructs - and more importantly, it includes an in depth discussion about the Java Collections Framework. The book slowly progresses to discuss complex concepts like recursion, exception handling and programming with GUI, without ever making the reader feel like they must have skipped an invisible chapter somewhere in between. Overall, I give this book 5 stars for ease of readability, organization and flow. Highly recommended!

One of the best books to learn Java and OOP

I have used both 1st and 2nd editions of this book. By far this is one of the best books to start learning Object Oriented Programming and Java.
For Java beginners, this book addresses all fundamentals, the quirks and nuances of Java in an easy to learn manner.
The book is written in a manner, that helps you to quickly apply the principles to work in programs.

I especially recommend this book to anyone who is using this as your first object oriented programming text. The book approaches both OOP and java
in a way that explains the fundamental concepts and then builds on that to address the complex concepts.

I believe this book takes on a very organic,simple and easy to learn approach to explain both OOP and JAVA!

By TRUMPRULES!!!!
Book was as good as it gets before you buy JAVA for dummies. The instructor however is a different story Park University has some of the worst for this course.

About the Author

Surya Santoso, Ph.D., is a senior power systems engineer at Electrodek Concepts, Inc. His primary interests involve modeling of transients and harmonic phenomena and development of intelligent systems algorithms for power quality data analysis. Santoso is a senior member of the IEEE

Mark F. McGranaghan is vice president of sales and marketing for Electrodek Concepts, Inc. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Toledo and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. McGrahaghan was vice chairman of the IEEE SCC 22 Power Quality Standards Coordinating Committee and a technical advisor for the IEC SC77A (International Power Quality Standards).

Roger C. Dugan is a senior consultant with Electrodek Concepts, Inc. He has a BSEE degree from Ohio University and an ME degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dugan has nearly 40 years’ experience in electric power quality and distribution system analysis. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his work in harmonics and transients.

H. Wayne Beaty is the former managing editor of Electric Light and Power and editor of McGraw-Hill's Standard Handbook of Electrical Engineering, Thirteenth Edition.

Practical and enlighting. Take the mystery out of Power Quality.

Most books on power engineering related subjects have not been very helpful in my experience. The typical text being heavy on theory and math or just too generic to be of use. This book was a plesent suprise on being both educational and yet very practical. Now I feel much more comfortable in analizing and troubleshoot power quality issues in our plant and can explain the concepts to others. Expereince is what makes a master and this book will give you the tools to start in that direction. If you have a need to be working on power quality issues or just want to understand power quality better then this book is for you.

Good book!

I checked out an earlier edition of this book (light blue colored cover) from the school library and really enjoyed it. It introduced me to Utilities industry language describing indices of power distribution reliability (interruptions and outages), like SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI.

Although I would have liked more detail on correcting reactive power (when unwanted) I still thought the presentation was clear and cogent. I would recommend this book to the student or anyone interested in power system quality. I'll put it in my Wish List.

Top Tennis Advice!

This book was excellent at providing helpful, informative tennis strategies and it is filled with advice to improve your game. The author covers many areas and I really enjoyed the chapter that looked at the best mental strategies to employ and how they can help.
The nutritional advice and 10 foods for tennis players were very enlightening, while the advice on your grip was tremendous and each one clearly explained. Furthermore, there are also some interesting exercises and recovery tips for tennis players too.
What I enjoyed most was the chapters that focused on different shots. My backhand and serving game are my weakest areas and the advice for all of them was detailed and easy-to-understand.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who plays or who would like to get into playing tennis as there is so much helpful and clear advice to improve your game or just as a launching pad.

Improve your tennis game before the end of summer!

It's getting to be warmer weather again and you know what that means. Time to make an idiot of yourself on the court. No need for that this time. This book has a bunch of excellent strategies for improving your tennis game. I have played a few times over the years for fun and never really thought about improving my game until recently. I like to get Ace's strategy books because they are set out in a way that makes them easy to read. The coaching and improvement methods mentioned are doable. And the tips and strategies work! I highly recommend this book if you are looking to improve your game!

This is a fantastic book and a great primer and reference on multiparameter equations of state - written by R. Span himself. The book obviously assumes a certain level of understanding of the subject matter. It is great for those who are trying to write programs implementing Helmholtz-based equations of state.

The book is split up into sections based on the objective of the reader. One part is structured for those who are looking to simply implement existing equations, another is for those who actually plan on deriving a standard equation of state for a substance.

The only "negative" is that the book is mildly outdated as I've come across some newer methods not covered in the book. However, it's not the book's fault; this does provide the foundation for what appears to be the foreseeable future.

This is the best and most comprehensive book about Helmholtz energy equations of state, which is why it is cited so often. It is very readable and gives a good overview about multiparameter equations of state. All nomenclature is the same as in NIST papers, and quite a lot of equations of state recommended by NIST were established (or co-authored) by the author of this book.

At first I thought it was over my head. Then just realized it is poorly written and laid out. If you buy it, start in the back, write down the nomenclature as you go,then refer to NIST papers for correct use. cost is nuetral if your just buy the NIST data base first,
