Back Doctor, goodbye back pain...

What I remember liking the most, are his various explanations of back pain, how most of us get it, what we can do to get rid of fit, and most important - how to avoid it.
He also puts plain words on all the Chiro/etc techno-talk and what it all boils down to.
I read it over 5 years ago - haven't seen a chiro since. Have I been without any pain - no. But the bouts are few & far between + I know what to do - and it's never so bad I must stay in bed or sitting all day long.
I had been going to chiros for over 20 years and they had never been able to resolve it. (The last one was actually very nice - and did give me some decent guidlines - which all others before had failed to do).
I don't remember if he says it these words, but modern back pain is a combo of several things : mainly inactivity, weight problems and bad sitting habits. Our backs are precious - we should take better care of them.

An excellent book - I recommend it to all my friends.

I've had two episodes where I was flat on my back with a herniated disc for an entire month. This book explains how your back works and how to take care of it. It's easy reading. It's clear, concise and useful. I've given copies to family and friends and would recommend it to anyone.

The Back Doctor

This was a good book for someone with advanced back pain who will need the help of a surgeon to deal with it. Surgical intervention is not always the solution to back problems, though, and many times a good osteopathic doctor can deal with many of the other back problems people do have. This book was written by a doctor who saw many of the same problems over and over, and decided to write a book to help his patients, and many others, with the many questions they have about their back problems. It gives the reader a good place to start trying to decribe their problem and ask their doctor the right questions needed to address their issues.

Great for German Genealogy Transcriptions

I transcribe and translate a lot of 19th century church records and civil documents as part of my genealogy hobby. Ernest Thode's German - English Genealogy Dictionary is my main resource for everyday use, but when something unusual ( and therefore very interesting ) comes along, I need the added vocabulary found in Cassell's German-English, English-German Dictionary. Other reviews mention this dictionary is out of date, but for my purposes, that is a feature, not a drawback.
The English to German section is helpful if I suspect the meaning of a phrase, but can not read the old German script. By back-translating, I can often decipher the words in question. I also like the list of common abbreviations and the table of conversions for weights and measures in the center of the dictionary. The black page edging makes this section easy to locate and use. I'm glad I bought this dictionary, and recommend it to others.

The best dictionary for college and graduate students

This dictionary is a tome. It's definitely not something you'd want to lug around traveling. For academic research, though, it's the best I've found. I used it as an undergrad and sold it, then bought another copy ten years later for my phd. I'm just as impressed with it now as I was a decade ago. In addition to the sheer number of words i covers, it is particularly helpful for looking up metaphors and idiomatic expressions.

A gentle story of the Sun's healing of marital discord by a gift of ripe strawberries that magically grow at the feet of an angry woman as she flees her husband's harsh words, thus halting her departure long enough for him to catch up and make amends. Thereafter, the story concludes, whenever the Cherokee eat strawberries, they are reminded to be kind to one another. Quietly luminous watercolors capture details of dress, dwelling, implements, flora, and fauna against an open landscape of rolling hills. Small touches dramatize the story's moods: a bouquet of brown-eyed Susans flung to the ground in anger; an empty nest in a pine tree as the woman disappears behind the western hills; the glimmer of a single firefly as man and wife are reconciled. Get this book!

I love this book both for it's great story and because it is a terrific resource for teachers. It's one of those books (like Where the Wild Things Are or Runaway Bunny) that just grabs kids up and speaks directly to things they are deeply connected to. In this case: inequity, anger and how to deal with those feelings.
If you are a teacher (or parent) and want a book that addresses these issues witout being overly complicated or inauthentic - run, don't walk and buy this wonderful book!

First Strawberries - a definite pick!

This Cheyenne tale is a great lesson about how words of anger hurt and about forgiveness. Also a nature pour-quoi tale! Can be shared easily with very young, important message for older boys and girls as well as adults. After reading this, eating strawberries will be just a little sweeter!
